What a burofax is, and why it matters

A burofax is a letter sent through a certified postal service in Spain. It proves that it was sent, when, and that it was delivered or that delivery was attempted. It is the usual way to claim a deposit, an unpaid invoice or wages from someone in Spain. Since 2025, almost every civil lawsuit in Spain requires proof that you first tried to settle, and a burofax is the simplest way to show it.

How it works

If you have the letter, paste it on the “Ya tengo mi texto” page and we tell you for free if something is missing. If not, pick your case (deposit, invoice, wages, cancelling a service…) and we draft it with your details.
Enter your name and ID (passport is fine). If you have no address in Spain, tick “No tengo dirección en España”.
Enter the recipient’s name and address in Spain (not a PO box), and their email if you know it.
Pay by card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express), Apple Pay or Google Pay. The invoice can carry your company’s VAT ID.
We send it on paper with proof of delivery, and email you each step. If you gave us their email, it also goes by certified email at no extra cost.

The sender address if you don’t live in Spain

The burofax service only accepts senders with an address in Spain. So the envelope reads “your name, c/o Burofácil” with our address. That is normal when someone sends on behalf of another: inside the letter it is you who writes and claims. Put an email or phone number in the letter so they can answer you. If they reply by post, we scan it and email it to you.

Companies and agents outside Spain

You can send it on behalf of a client: the letter says who is claiming and on whose behalf.
The letter can be in Spanish, or in Spanish and English.
Invoice in your company’s name, with your VAT ID: you add it when paying.
Paper is included up to 4 pages; each extra page is 1 €. You see it before paying.

If it ends up in court

The burofax and its proof of delivery show that you tried to settle before suing. The postal operator keeps a copy of your letter for 10 years: if you go to court, you can ask for a notary to certify what it said (charged separately). For small amounts you don’t need a lawyer in Spain, but from abroad it often pays to have someone represent you there.
